Pack 766 Hiking Series

The Pack 766 Hiking Series was created to give scouts more opportunities to spend time outdoors, exploring nature and staying fit. They'll learn about what to bring on a hike, how to identify local plants and wildlife (especially the ones to avoid), and how to be good stewards for the environment. The hikes are chosen with a variety of scouts in mind and typically start with shorter, easier hikes in the Fall, a waterfall hike in the Winter, and end with some challenging hikes in the Spring. Any scout who successfully completes 3 of the 5 hikes will earn his Hiker patch!

The second hike in the Pack 766 Hiking Series takes us to Santa Teresa County Park, part of the Santa Clara County Park system. The hike begins at the Stile Entrance to the park and heads east on the Fortini Trail. The trail meanders alongside Santa Teresa Creek before connecting with Mine Trail, a part of the Juan Bautista de Anza Historic Trail. At this junction, the hike heads west up the hill to join the Stile Ranch Trail. Turning left on the Stile Ranch Trail reconnects us with the trailhead at Stile Entrance.

The Stile Entrance to Santa Teresa County Park is at the end of Fortini Rd off of McKean Rd in San Jose's Almaden Valley. Parking is free.

Cub Scouts should remember to bring their 6 essentials:

  • Food
  • Sun Protection
